Bob Smith

President & Chief Executive Officer

Bob has over 25 years of experience in the commercial and industrial construction industry including the last fourteen years in senior leadership roles within the largest mechanical contractors in the Alberta market. Bob has a strong skill set managing teams through all phases of a project life cycle, from needs assessment through operational start-up. With a broad range of project experience, including some of the largest healthcare, industrial and institutional projects across the province, Bob has the insight on how to balance both appropriate risk and fiscal responsibility.

As President and CEO of District Mechanical, Bob’s role is to spearhead strategic planning, manage the growth and development of our teams while maintaining the highest standards of safety, integrity and quality. Bob believes in the success of every team member, promoting an open and honest environment of mutual trust and respect.

Adam Samuelson

Vice President Operations

Adam is a seasoned industry leader with more than 20 years of experience, encompassing a wide range of construction and building projects. His career has seen him in various leadership roles overseeing new construction as well as complex renovations in the hospitality industry, building tenant improvements, health care facilities and higher education school facilities. Adam has successfully managed some of Alberta’s largest and most complex and fast-tracked construction projects.

As Vice President Operations, Adam oversees the construction operations for the company including direct project oversight and leadership, cost and schedule management, commitment to safety, constructability reviews, and client reporting. Throughout the construction phase, Adam is focused on ensuring quality control, monitoring District Mechanical’s Safety Program and overall productivity and performance.

Ryan Thomas

Vice President Procurement

Ryan Thomas has over 20 years of experience in the commercial and industrial construction industry including the last 13 years working for the largest mechanical construction company in Canada, 8 of those years as the Chief Estimator in Alberta and Saskatchewan. As a Red Seal Refrigeration journeyperson and a Mechanical Engineering Technologist he has both installation and design knowledge to help you take your project from conception through construction. Ryan has a demonstrated history of integrity, attention to detail and a personalised commitment to clients on some of Canada’s largest and most complex construction projects.

As Vice President Procurement, Ryan oversees District Mechanical’s bidding and procurement strategies, technical services including value engineering, constructability reviews and design build opportunities. Ryan also leads our estimating group and the company’s sensor and monitoring division.

Cheryl Ursel

Office Manager

Cheryl has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry including the last 14 years managing office and project administration teams. As Office Manager, Cheryl is responsible for developing and managing District Mechanical’s administration processes and procedures. Cheryl ensures that the company is aligned in our communications and supports many activities through our organization.

Mike Slapman

Chief Financial Officer

Mike has over 20 years in the residential, commercial, and industrial construction industry including seven years as the CFO of Lockerbie & Hole Inc., a publicly traded mechanical construction company that was later acquired by Aecon. Mike has also previously worked as the CFO of Graham Construction. Mike has considerable experience in working with executive teams as they manage companies through explosive growth. As CFO, Mike is responsible for managing the company’s finances as it grows into one of the largest mechanical companies in Alberta.
